Heliconia collinsiana is commonly called the Bird-In-Paradise Flower, or Heliconia. Helconia is an herb that belongs to the Heliconiaceae family and typically grows 3.0–4.6 metres tall. Heliconia is native to Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and southern Mexico (Chiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Tabasco, Nayarit, Jalisco, Veracruz, Michoacán). Heliconia is a popular ornamental plant in hot regions with a humid climate. The fruits are very attractive, first yellow, then they mature to a bright purple-blue colour. Heliconia can be grown and maintained outdoors in frost-free areas of Southern California. They are usually grown in full sun to light shade and rich well-drained soils.
